In the Penza region, in the village of Pobeda, there is already quite popular, the so-called "Mikhailovskaya Convent". The community of "Elder Alexy" (this is another name for the "Michael Monastery") is located next to the Orthodox Church of the Assumption Mother of God Penza diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church.

This community does NOT have canonical communion with the Russian Orthodox Church, although it often declares itself to be none other than the "True Orthodox Church".

At the center of the spiritual life of the "Mikhailovskaya Convent" is the veneration of the personality of "Schihegumen Alexis".

"Elder" of the "Michael Monastery" - "Schiigumen Alexy"

Mikhail Ivanovich Shumilin (this is his worldly name) was born on November 10, 1930 in the village of Lomovka, Luninsky district, Penza region, with a serious physical illness. He is a disabled child.

Throughout his life, he could not fully control either his arms or legs, he moved in a wheelchair and only with someone else's help. And most importantly - his speech was slurred and unintelligible. Therefore, when at the age of 22 Mikhail was transferred to Penza, his mother became a “translator” with him.

It is quite obvious that a person in such a physical condition could not be ordained to the sacred dignity that members of the community ascribe to him.

About his tonsure (allegedly committed in 1992) in general became known not so long ago - in 2007 from the book “According to your faith, let it be to you ...”. This is one of several books written about "Elder Alexis". One of the authors is the “priest” Gennady Emelyanov, who was previously a distributor of the cult of the “Chebarkul lad Vyacheslav”.

Literature about the "sheigumen Alexy"

The book, entitled with the gospel words “According to your faith, let it be for you ...”, tells about the consecration of “Elder Alexy” in the presence of several metropolitans and archimandrites who live and serve in completely different places (Tbilisi, Riga, Belgorod) and who strangely gathered for consecration Mikhail Shumilin.

It also speaks of the blessing of the deceased Archbishop of Penza and Kuznetsk Seraphim, which is a lie. Archbishop Seraphim did not give his blessing either for his tonsure or for the construction of the "Mikhailovsky Church" and this "cloister".

And on the book itself there is again a false blessing of the ruling bishop at that time - Archbishop of Penza and Kuznetsk Filaret, which he did not give. Moreover, he refuted the very fact of such a blessing. And there are no documents for the clergyman Alexy (Shumilin) ​​in the Penza diocese, and never have been.

In addition to the book mentioned above, several more sectarian books with falsely signed blessings have been written about him: “The Road to the Elder”, “Come to Me, All You Who Work,” and others.

They represent the memories of people who communicated with the "old man" and the author's comments, designed to direct the reader's thoughts in the right direction. Many memoirs were written during the lifetime of "shegumen Alexy" and with his "own blessing", contrary to church canons.

The ideas in these books are contrary to the teachings Orthodox Church. They propagate the teaching that the salvation of the soul is impossible without the elder, that the miracles performed by him are proof of the truth of the elder. And also - a ban on the commemoration of the "shiigumen Alexy" as deceased, since he is unequivocally a saint.

Most likely, Mikhail Shumilin himself, due to his illness, did not even understand what was really going on around him. The surrounding people used this sick person, a disabled child, for their own selfish purposes.

Adepts of this community distribute this pseudo-Orthodox literature throughout Russia. At the end of the book “According to your faith, let it be for you ...” there is even an akathist printed “To the Reverend Father Our Shegigumen Alexy, Elder of Penza”. Also attached is a laminated photograph of the "old man" with a troparion and kontakion on the reverse side.

"Mikhailovskaya Convent"

"Mikhailovskaya monastery" is a private courtyard, fenced with a brick fence. Gate - with a combination lock, around - security. Installed on the dome of the bell tower Orthodox cross. A frequent sight around is a mass of cars and pilgrimage buses.

The "cloister" has its own laws - its own "non-translatable" time, a general confession at the grave of the "elder" without a priest (then you just need to go to the rector for permissive prayer), lighting the water from the "father's power" without a prayer service (arranging bottles of water around him graves).

At the same time, the “Mikhailovsky pilgrims” are offended by the priests from their parish churches, who do not allow those who, instead of the prescribed Rule for Holy Communion, read an akathist to the “starets” to Communion ...

Like any sect, the cult of "Schihegumen Alexy" is commercial in nature. Funds are being collected for a “chapel on the grave of an old man”, a “monastery” and other purposes not only in the Penza region, but throughout Russia.

Also, in the village of Pobeda, houses are being bought up, because the “grace of an old man” operates here, and therefore the prices are unreasonably high - they exceed the real cost by more than ten times.

The Abode is run by former programmer Alexander Zhukov, who calls himself Father Rafail, and former policeman Grigory Alekseev, who calls himself Father Gabriel. Members of the community introduce themselves as "followers of Elder Alexy".

The Mikhailovskaya Convent gained the greatest popularity in such cities as Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar, Volgograd, Nizhny Novgorod, as well as in the Saratov, Vladimir and Tula regions. Books about him published in Moscow and St. Petersburg are actively distributed throughout the dioceses.

"Mikhailovskaya Convent" is not registered by the justice authorities. Representatives of the Penza diocese "Mikhailovtsy" are not allowed into the temple, they refuse to answer questions about who blessed the construction of the temple, who ordained clergy and employees ...

The cult of "Elder Alexy" is a movement of a sectarian and schismatic spirit, masquerading as Orthodoxy. Members of the community were convicted of fraud.

Mikhail was born with a severe physical ailment, and throughout his life he could not use his hands and feet, and practically could not speak articulately. He moved in a wheelchair with the help of other people.

At the age of 22, the future "elder" was transferred to Penza, where, having no permanent place of residence, he lived in the apartments of believers who paid attention to him, and some even then began to consider him a perspicacious one. Later, his mother, Anna, came to see her son, who became his main "translator", since Mikhail's speech was extremely illegible.
