How to read morning and evening prayers at home. Evening prayers: how to read correctly, basic canons. - And if you drive and put the disc with prayers

MORNING AND EVENING PRAYERS

Ask any priest: “Father, is it necessary to read all the morning and evening prayers every day of God?”, And the priest will answer you: “It is absolutely necessary!”

I must admit honestly: daily reading of the morning and evening rules is a very, very difficult task. Firstly, we often do not have enough time for this (both evening and morning rules are quite long). Secondly, everyone is probably familiar with the traditional evening self-awareness today: everything, I can’t do anything else! Just to get to bed and - sleep ...

The first problem is quite easy to deal with: most priests advise: if you do not have enough time to read the entire rule, read as much as you can. The main thing is not to rush, it is better to read four prayers thoughtfully and with your soul, to have four conversations with the Lord, than to hastily and carelessly read the whole rule, without thinking about anything, without feeling anything ...

The second problem is more complex. It is difficult for a tired person to tune in to prayer, so it turns out that many read the rule only because there is a kind of superstition, fear in their souls: if I don’t pray, God won’t protect, I’ll get angry ... Here you still need to overpower yourself. But do not start praying right away, stay calm, let your mind and soul calm down. Then tell the Lord: “Lord, to be honest, I don’t feel like praying now, and I’m tired, and it’s hard for me ... But out of a sense of duty and out of love for You, I will do it. If it doesn’t work out very well for me today, don’t judge me harshly ... ”Start your prayer with a simple conversation with the Lord, if you want, complain to Him about what a hard day it was, tell me what hurts you, what your soul is toiling about … And very soon you will see that this conversation slowly set you up for fellowship with Him.

Then just start: "In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit ..." With these words, you seem to move away from the outside world, free yourself from worldly experiences and troubles that each of us has and which often destroy our prayerful spirit.

Then read the prayers - read calmly, do not direct them by an effort of will somewhere beyond the clouds, but try to feel these words with your heart, your soul. It is from your heart that it is easiest for prayer words to ascend to the Throne of God.

It happens, of course, that fatigue is so great, the state of health is so terrible that we are simply not able to respond with our hearts to the spoken words. Well, then read the prayers out of conviction. Say: “Lord, I am so tired now that I have no strength for emotions, but I know that the words that I utter are true, that they contain great meaning and great love. Now I cannot feel them with my soul, but my mind knows that these words are true.

If you train in prayer like this every day, then after a while it will be enough for you to say just a few prayer words so that your mind gathers for reasonable prayer, and your soul ignites for emotional prayer. Consciousness and soul, prepared by daily prayer work, will respond instantly. And it suddenly turns out that, after months of long, painstaking work, we have become able to read the rule of prayer with full attention, with full heartfelt participation, regardless of lack of time and fatigue.

Of course, this is not easy to achieve, but our health - physical and mental - is worth such work.

I would like to offer you morning and evening rules, slightly different from those that you will find in the traditional prayer book. They, these rules, are a little wider, a little more detailed, this is how the monks in the monasteries pray in the morning and in the evening. Whether you can train yourself to read these prayers daily is up to you.

But believe me, a sick person, it is simply necessary to read the morning and evening rules! May sometimes take risks and neglect the rules of nutrition and daily routine healthy man but God forbid that a sick person should behave in this way! Illness is a sign that we must stop, think, and very strictly, very carefully choosing the path, start the path back to our health. Yes, often this path turns out to be very difficult (in any case, much more difficult than the one by which we came to the disease), but there is no other way to restore health, it simply does not exist.

What do you do when you get up in the morning? Wash your face, cook breakfast, do exercises? Wonderful. All this is necessary for you, your body. But try starting your day differently. Opening your eyes, cheerfully throw back the blanket and overshadow yourself sign of the cross. Mentally thank God for the past night, even if you didn't sleep well. Go to the home icon and read the morning prayers. I assure you, you will feel much better. You yourself will be surprised by the state of cheerfulness and spiritual freshness. There will be a turning point in your disease. You will be on the mend soon.

morning prayers “for those who are ill and suffering in bodily evil,” which I quote below, are given to us by the Orthodox Church. Many sick people were healed thanks to these prayers. Remember: you are no worse than them. Believe that your healing has already begun. Start every day with prayers, exercise your soul!

So, our morning prayer rule (read on all days except days Easter week).

We become calm, make the sign of the cross and then read:

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Publican's Prayer

God, be merciful to me, a sinner.

And we bow, and then we read:

Predestinatory prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Pure Mother and all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.

Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of Truth, Who is everywhere and fills everything, Treasury of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed, our souls.

If now is the period from the first week of Easter to the Ascension, then instead of "King of Heaven" we read:

Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and bestowing life on those in the tombs. (Read three times)

If now is the period from the Ascension to the Trinity, then we do not read either “King of Heaven” or “Christ is Risen”. And we read:

Trisagion

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Three times, accompanied by the sign of the cross and a bow from the waist)

Prayer to the Holy Trinity

Holy Trinity have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse our sins; Lord, forgive our iniquities; Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities; for your name.

Lord have mercy. (Three times)

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Lord's Prayer

Our Father, Who art in heaven! Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, as in heaven and on earth. Give us our daily bread today, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Troparion Ternary

Rising from sleep, we fall down to Thee, Blessed, and cry out to the angelic song of Thee, Stronger: Holy, Holy, Holy Thou, God, have mercy on us the Mother of God.

Thou hast raised me up from bed and sleep, O Lord, enlighten my mind and heart, and open my lips, in hedgehog to sing Thee, Holy Trinity: Holy, Holy, Holy, O God, have mercy on us with the Theotokos.

Suddenly the Judge will come, and every day the deeds will be exposed; but with fear we call at midnight: Holy, holy, holy art thou, God, have mercy on us through the Theotokos.

Lord have mercy. (12 times)

Prayer to the Holy Trinity

Having risen from sleep, I thank Thee, Holy Trinity, for many, for the sake of Thy goodness and longsuffering, were not angry with me, lazy and sinful, below you destroyed me with my iniquities, but you usually loved humanity and, in the hopelessness of the lying one, raised me up, in a hedgehog matin and glorify your power. And now enlighten my mental eyes, open my mouth to learn Thy words, and understand Thy commandments, and do Thy will, and sing Thee in confession of the heart, and sing of Thy all-holy name, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever centuries. Amen.

Come, let us worship our King God.

Come, let us bow down and bow down to Christ, our King God.

Come, let us worship and bow down to Christ Himself, the King and our God. (Three bows)

Psalm 50

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy, and according to the multitude of Thy mercies, cleanse my iniquity. Wash me most of all from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my iniquity, and my sin before me is taken out. I have sinned against you alone and done evil before you; as if you were justified in your words, and conquered when you judge Ty. Behold, I was conceived in iniquity, and in sins give birth to me, my mother. Behold, thou didst love the truth; the unknown and secret wisdom of Thy revealed to me. Sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Give joy and joy to my hearing; the bones of the humble will rejoice. Turn Your face away from my sins and cleanse all my iniquities. Create a pure heart in me, O God, and renew a right spirit in my womb. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Give me the joy of Your salvation and confirm me with the Sovereign Spirit. I will teach the wicked in your way, and the wicked will turn to you. Deliver me from blood, O God, God of my salvation; my tongue rejoices in thy righteousness. Lord, open my mouth, and my mouth will proclaim your praise. As if you would have desired sacrifices, you would have given them ugly: burnt offerings are not bugs. Sacrifice to God the spirit is broken; a contrite and humble heart God will not despise. Please, O Lord, with Thy favor Zion, and let the walls of Jerusalem be built. Then be pleased with the sacrifice of righteousness, an offering and a burnt offering; then they will offer bullocks on your altar.

Symbol of faith

I believe in one God the Father, Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, visible to all and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Only Begotten, who was born of the Father before all ages; Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, uncreated, consubstantial with the Father, Whom all was. For us for the sake of man and for our sake of salvation, he descended from heaven and became incarnate from the Holy Spirit and Mary the Virgin, and became human. Crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered, and was buried. And he rose again on the third day, according to the Scriptures. And ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father. And packs of the future with glory to judge the living and the dead. His Kingdom will have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Life-Giving One, Who proceeds from the Father. Even with the Father and the Son, we worship and glorify the one who spoke the prophets. Into one Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the remission of sins. I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the age to come. Amen,

First Prayer of Saint Macarius the Great

God, cleanse me, a sinner, as I have done no good before Thee, but deliver me from the evil one, and may Thy will be done in me, but without condemnation I will open my unworthy mouth and praise the name Your holy, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer two, of the same saint

Rising from sleep, I bring the midnight song to Thee, Savior, and falling down crying out to Thee: do not let me fall asleep in a sinful death, but have mercy on me, crucified by will, and speeding me up lying in laziness, and save me in standing and prayer, and after a dream in the night, shine upon me a sinless day, Christ God, and save me.

Prayer three, of the same saint

To Thee, O Lord, Lover of mankind, I have risen from sleep, and I strive for Thy works by Thy mercy, and I pray to you: help me at all times, in all things, and deliver me from every evil worldly thing and the devil's haste, and save me, and enter into your eternal kingdom. You are my Creator and all good, the Provider and Giver, all my hope is in You, and I send glory to You, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Holy Lady my Mother of God, with Thy holy and omnipotent prayers, banish from me, Thy humble and cursed servant, despondency, oblivion, foolishness, negligence, and all filthy, crafty and blasphemous thoughts from my wretched heart and from my darkened mind; and extinguish the flame of my passions, for I am poor and cursed. And deliver me from many and fierce memories and enterprises, and from all the actions of evil free me. As if you are blessed from all generations, and Your honorable name is glorified forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer to the Guardian Angel

Angel of God, my holy guardian, given to me by God from heaven! I diligently pray to you: enlighten me today, and save me from all evil, guide me to a good deed, and direct me on the path of salvation. Amen.

Prayer to the saint whose name you bear

Pray to God for me, holy servant of God (we call the saint whose name we bear), as if I diligently resort to you, a quick helper and prayer book for my soul.

Song of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Virgin Mother of God, rejoice, Blessed Mary, the Lord is with you; Blessed are you in women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, as if the Savior gave birth to our souls.

Troparion to the Cross and Prayer for the Fatherland

Save, O Lord, Thy people, and bless Thy inheritance, granting the victory of Thy holy Church against the opposition, and Thy keeping Thy Cross living.

And then briefly pray for the health and salvation of your spiritual father, your parents, relatives, bosses, benefactors, those who are sick or in sorrow. Read further:

About living

Remember, Lord Jesus Christ, our God, Thy mercies and bounties from the ages of existence, for their sake, and became human, and crucifixion, and death, for the sake of salvation, right in Thee believers, endure thou, and rose from the dead, thou ascended into heaven and sit at the right hand of God the Father, and look upon the humble prayers of those who call upon Thee with all their hearts; incline Your ear, and hear the humble prayer of me, Your indecent servant, in the stench of spiritual fragrance, Who brings You for all Your people. And in the first place, remember Your Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, which you have provided with Your honest Blood, and confirm, and strengthen, and expand, multiply, die, and keep the gates of hell forever and ever; Calm down the tearing of the Churches, extinguish the pagan vacillations, and soon destroy and eradicate the heresies of rebellion, and turn into nothingness by the power of Your Holy Spirit. (Bow)

Save, Lord, and have mercy on our God-protected country, its authorities and its army, and let us live a quiet and silent life in orthodoxy and in all piety and purity. (Bow)

Save, O Lord, and have mercy on our Great Lord and Father His Holiness Patriarch Alexy, His Grace Metropolitans, Archbishops and Orthodox Bishops, Priests and Deacons, and all the Church’s Count, I have set Thou to shepherd Your flock verbally, and through their prayers have mercy and save me a sinner. (Bow)

Save, O Lord, and have mercy on my spiritual father (his name) and with his holy prayers, forgive my sins. (Bow)

Save, Lord, and have mercy on my parents (their names), brethren, and sisters, and my relatives according to the flesh, and all the neighbors of my kind, and friends, and grant them your peace and peace of good. (Bow)

Save, Lord, and have mercy on the old and the young, the poor and orphans, and widows, and those who are in sickness and sorrow, troubles and sorrows, situations and captivity, dungeons and imprisonment, rather in persecution, for the sake of Thee and the Orthodox faith, from the tongue of the godless, from the apostate and from heretics, who are your servants, and remember, visit, strengthen, comfort, and soon by your strength I will weaken, give them freedom and deliver. (Bow)

Save, Lord, and have mercy on those sent to the service, traveling fathers and brothers, and all Orthodox Christians. (Bow)

Save, Lord, and have mercy on them with my madness of temptations, and turn away from the path of salvation, lead me to evil and unlike deeds; By Your Divine Providence return the packs to the path of salvation. (Bow)

Save, Lord, and have mercy on those who hate and offend me, and those who do misfortune to me, and do not leave them to perish for the sake of a sinner. (Bow)

Apostates from the Orthodox faith and blinded by fatal heresies, enlighten with the light of Your knowledge and honor Your Holy Apostles of the Cathedral Church. (Bow)

About the departed

Remember, Lord, from this life, His Holiness Patriarchs, His Eminence Metropolitans, Archbishops and Bishops of the Orthodox, who have departed from this life, who served You in the priesthood and the clergy, and the monastic rank, and in Your eternal villages with the saints give rest. (Bow)

Remember, Lord, the souls of your departed servants, my parents (names), and all relatives in the flesh; and forgive them all their sins, voluntary and involuntary, granting them the Kingdom and the communion of Your eternal good and Your endless and blissful life pleasure. (Bow)

Remember, Lord, and all in the hope of resurrection and life eternal, the reposed fathers and our brothers and sisters, and Orthodox Christians lying here and everywhere, and with Your saints, where the light of Your face dwells, indwell, and have mercy on us, as Good and Humanitarian . Amen. (Bow)

Grant, Lord, the forgiveness of sins to all those who have departed in the faith and the hope of the resurrection, our father, brothers and sisters, and create for them an eternal memory. (Three times)

And then we remember what day it is today: if it falls on the time from Ascension to Easter, we read:

End of prayers

It is worthy to eat as if truly blessed Theotokos, Blessed and Immaculate and Mother of our God. The most honest Cherubim and the most glorious Seraphim without comparison, who gave birth to God the Word without corruption, the real Mother of God We praise you.

If the day falls on the time from Monday of the first week after Easter to Ascension, then instead of “It is worthy to eat” we read:

An angel cryingly more gracious: Pure Virgin, rejoice! And pack the river: rejoice! Your Son is risen three days from the tomb and raised up the dead, people, rejoice!

Shine, shine, new Jerusalem, the glory of the Lord is upon you, Zion. You, Pure One, show off, Mother of God, about the rise of Your Nativity.

And on all days, except for the days of the Easter week, then we end the morning prayers like this:

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Lord have mercy. (Three times)

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Pure Mother, our reverend and God-bearing fathers and all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.

Admit it, you felt a little uneasy when you realized how difficult it is to read so many prayers every morning with your soul? I'll tell you one story.

One day on the eve of Lent, my spiritual father invited each of us, his spiritual children, to read the kathisma every evening during the entire Lent. A chapter of the Psalter is called a kathisma, there are 20 kathismas in this book, each, including obligatory prayers, approximately 25 pages.

We promised not to quit, to show a sense of responsibility and willpower.

At first it was very difficult. Then - even more difficult. Imagine, every day of God, regardless of whether you are sick or healthy, alert or tired half to death, after reading the evening rule, which is quite long in itself, you need to pick up the Psalter and read your kathisma, another 25 pages ... Really hard it was, but in my soul someone cunning whispered all the time: quit, you still can’t stand it! .. Do you know why I didn’t quit? Well, of course, first of all, because it was very embarrassing to let down my father. But I began to notice one more thing: the longer, day after day, I read my 16th kathisma, the better I feel. It would seem that there is an additional load, you will have to get tired more, there will be less strength left for daily affairs ... But instead of a breakdown, energy began to arrive from somewhere, the strength appeared to redo things in a day almost twice as much as usual ... Insomnia that often tormented me as if taken by hand. My head almost stopped hurting (and I suffered from migraines from the university bench).

When the obedience ended and the priest began to ask us if it was not very difficult for us, I told him about my improved health. And he just smiled back.

It's all right, he says. “Otherwise, why would I give you this obedience?”

And now let's talk about evening prayers.

In what mood do you go to bed? What do you think about when you fall asleep? All this is very important. If you have been watching yourself, you may have noticed that when you wake up, you get up with the same thought that you went to bed with. If you were unhappy with something, going to bed, you will wake up in a bad mood. It's called getting up on the wrong foot.

Do thoughts keep you from falling asleep? Do you constantly spin heavy, unpleasant thoughts in your head, and they haunt you even at night? This suggests that your internal mechanism is failing. Your computer does not know in which cells it needs to decompose information. He tries on these thoughts this way and that, examines them, scrolls, tries to "digest". (Your stomach behaves in much the same way when you supply it with heavy food.) This can continue even in sleep. Instead of rest, you lose strength.

Meanwhile, the time when we sleep is extremely important in the process of recovery.

I suggest praying before bed. This will allow you to get rid of painful thoughts. (They simply won't interest you.) Evening prayers will bless you for a good night's sleep. And during sleep, bright, soothing images will hover over your head - that is, those phantoms that you called to life with the words of your prayer.

The beginning of the evening rule is the same as the beginning morning rule: from "In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit" to "Our Father ..." inclusive.

Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us; bewildering any answer, we offer this prayer as the Lord of sin: have mercy on us.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Lord, have mercy on us, we put our trust in Thee; do not be angry with us, remember our iniquities below, but look now as if you are merciful, and deliver us from our enemies; Thou art our God, and we are Thy people, all works by Thy hand, and we call on Thy name.

And now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Open the doors of mercy to us, blessed Mother of God, who hope in Thee, let us not perish, but let us be delivered from troubles by Thee: Thou art the salvation of the Christian race.

Lord have mercy. (12 times)

Lord our God, if I have sinned in these days in word, deed and thought, forgive me as Good and Lover of mankind. Peaceful sleep and serene grant me. Send your guardian angel, covering and keeping me from all evil, as if you are the guardian of our souls and our bodies, and we send glory to you, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer of St. John Chrysostom, according to the number of hours of the day and night

Lord, do not deprive me of Your heavenly blessings. Lord, deliver me eternal torment. Lord, whether in mind or thought, in word or deed, I have sinned, forgive me. Lord, deliver me from all ignorance and oblivion, and cowardice, and petrified insensitivity. Lord, deliver me from every temptation. Lord, enlighten my heart, darken the evil lust. Lord, if a man has sinned, you, like God, have mercy on me, seeing the weakness of my soul. Lord, send Thy grace to help me, may I glorify Thy holy name. Lord Jesus Christ, write me Thy servant in the book of animals and grant me a good end. Lord my God, even if I have done nothing good before You, but give me, by Your grace, to lay a good beginning. Lord, sprinkle in my heart the dew of Thy grace. Lord of heaven and earth, remember me Thy sinful servant, cold and unclean in Thy Kingdom. Amen.

Lord, receive me in repentance. Lord, don't leave me. Lord, do not lead me into misfortune. Lord, give me a good thought. Lord, give me tears, and the memory of death, and tenderness. Lord, give me the thought of confessing my sins. Lord, give me humility, chastity and obedience. Lord, give me patience, generosity and meekness. Lord, instill in me the root of the good, your fear in my heart. Lord, grant me to love Thee with all my soul and thoughts, and to do Thy will in everything. Lord, cover me from certain people, and demons, and passions, and from all other unsimilar things. Lord, weigh, as you do, as you will, may your will be done in me a sinner, as if you are blessed forever. Amen.

Prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos

Good Tsar, good Mother, Most Pure and Blessed Mother of God Mary, pour out the mercy of Your Son and our God on my passionate soul and with Your prayers instruct me in good deeds, so that the rest of my life will pass without a blemish and I will find paradise with You, Virgin Mother of God, one Pure and Blessed.

Holy Guardian Angel

Angel of Christ, my holy guardian and protector of my soul and body, forgive me all, the fir-tree of sinning in this day, and deliver me from every wickedness of the enemy, but in no sin will I anger my God; but pray for me a sinful and unworthy slave, as if I were worthy, show the goodness and mercy of the All-Holy Trinity and the Mother of my Lord Jesus Christ and all the saints. Amen.

Prayer of repentance

Weaken, leave, forgive, God, our sins, free and involuntary, even in word and in deed, even in knowledge and not in knowledge, even in days and nights, even in mind and in thought: forgive us all, as Good and Humanitarian. Forgive those who hate and offend us, Lord, Lover of mankind. Bless those who do good. Grant to our brethren and relatives even for the salvation of petitions and eternal life. In the infirmities of the being, visit and grant healing. Izhe govern the sea. Travel travel. Grant forgiveness to those who serve and pardon us of sins. Those who have commanded us unworthy to pray for them, have mercy according to Your great mercy. Remember, Lord, before our departed father and brothers, and give them rest, where the light of Thy face dwells. Remember, Lord, our captive brothers and deliver me from every situation. Remember, Lord, those who bear fruit and do good in Your holy churches, and grant them even salvation, petitions and eternal life. Remember, Lord, also us, the humble and sinful and unworthy servants of Thy, and enlighten our minds with the light of Thy mind, and guide us on the path of Thy commandments, with the prayers of our Most Pure Lady, the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary, and all Thy saints: blessed be Thou forever and ever . Amen.

The chosen Voivode is victorious, as if having got rid of the evil ones, thankfully we will write down Thy servants, the Mother of God, but as if having an invincible power, free us from all troubles, let us call Ty: rejoice, Bride Unbetrothed.

Glorious Ever-Virgin Mother of Christ God, bring our prayer to Your Son and our God, may our souls be saved by You.

I place all my hope in You, Mother of God, keep me under Your shelter.

Virgin Mother of God, do not despise me a sinner, demanding Your help and Your intercession, my soul trusts in You, and have mercy on me.

Enlighten my eyes, O Christ God, lest I fall asleep into death, lest my enemy say: Be strong against him.

Be an intercessor for my soul, O God, as I walk in the midst of many nets; Deliver me from them and save me, Blessed One, like a Lover of mankind.

Prayer of Saint Johannicius

My hope is the Father, my refuge is the Son, my protection is the Holy Spirit: Holy Trinity, glory to Thee.

(We make the sign of the cross and continue the prayer)

Holy Cross

Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered, and let those who hate Him flee from His face. As the smoke disappears, let them disappear; like wax melts from the face of fire, so let the demons perish from the face loving God and signing the sign of the cross, and saying with joy: Rejoice, Most Honorable and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, drive away the demons by the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, crucified on you, who descended into hell and corrected the power of the devil, and gave us His Honest Cross to drive away any adversary. O Most Honorable and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord! Help me with the Holy Lady Virgin Mother of God and with all the saints forever. Amen.

When we go to sleep, we read this prayer:

In thy hands, Lord Jesus Christ, my God, I commit my spirit: Bless me, have mercy on me, and grant me eternal life. Amen.

Brief Prayer Book

Foreword Morning PrayersPrayers for the Future SleepThe layman's prayer rule consists of morning and evening prayers, which are performed daily. This rhythm is necessary, because otherwise the soul easily falls out of the life of prayer, as if waking up only from time to time. In prayer, as in any big and difficult task, inspiration, mood and improvisation alone are not enough.

There is a complete prayer rule, designed for monks and spiritually experienced laity, which is printed in the Orthodox Prayer Book.

However, for those who are just beginning to get used to prayer, it is difficult to immediately begin to read the entire rule. Usually confessors advise to start with several prayers, and then add one prayer to the rule every 7-10 days, so that the ability to read the rule develops gradually and naturally.

In addition, situations sometimes arise for the laity when there is little time left for prayer, and in this case it is better to read a short rule with attention and reverence than hastily and superficially, without a prayerful mood, mechanically read out the full rule.

So, cultivating a reasonable attitude towards prayer rule, St. Theophan the Recluse writes to one family person:

“Bless, Lord, and continue to pray according to your rule. But never bind yourself to a rule and think that there is anything of value in having such a rule or always making it. The whole price is in the heart before God falling down. The saints write that if someone does not depart from prayer as a condemned person, worthy of any punishment from the Lord, then such a person departs from it as a Pharisee. Another said: “standing at prayer, stand as if the Last Judgment when God’s decisive decision about you is ready to come out: depart or come.”

Formality and mechanism in prayer should be avoided in every possible way. Let this every time be a matter of deliberate free decision, and do it with consciousness and feeling, and not somehow. In case you need to be able to shorten the rule. Are there any accidents in family life?.. You can, for example, in the morning and in the evening, when there is no time, to read only the morning prayers and for the coming sleep. You can even not read all of them, but several. You can read nothing at all, but make a few bows, but with true heartfelt prayer. The rule must be handled with complete freedom. Be the mistress of the rule, not a slave. A servant only of God, obliged to devote all the minutes of her life to please Him.

For such cases, there is an established short prayer rule, designed for all believers.

In the morning it includes:

“King of Heaven”, Trisagion, “Our Father”, “Virgin Mother of God”, “Rising from sleep”, “Have mercy on me, God”, “I believe”, “God, cleanse”, “To You, Master”, “Holy Angel ”, “Most Holy Lady”, invocation of the saints, prayer for the living and the dead.

In the evening it includes:

“King of Heaven”, Trisagion, “Our Father”, “Have mercy on us, Lord”, “Eternal God”, “Good King”, “Angel of Christ”, from “Choose Governor” to “It is worthy to eat”.

* From Easter to Ascension, instead of this prayer, the troparion is read:

“Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and bestowing life on those in the tombs.” (Thrice) From the Ascension to the Trinity, we begin prayers with “Holy God ...”, omitting all the previous ones. This remark also applies to prayers for the coming sleep.

Throughout Bright Week, instead of this rule, the hours of Holy Pascha are read.

** From Pascha to Ascension, instead of this prayer, the refrain and irmos of the 9th song of the Paschal canon are read:

“An angel crying out more graciously: Pure Virgin, rejoice! And pack the river: rejoice! Your Son is risen three days from the tomb and raised up the dead; folks, have fun! Shine, shine, new Jerusalem, the glory of the Lord is upon you. Rejoice now and rejoice, Sione. But you, Pure One, show off, Mother of God, about the rise of Your Nativity.

These remarks also apply to prayers for the coming sleep.

How to learn to pray at home. Moscow, "The Ark", 2004. Trifonov Pechenga Monastery

The Orthodox believer differs from worldly people in that in Everyday life keeps the commandments of God and continues in prayer. The prayer rule for beginners is the reading of certain invocations to the Almighty and the saints in order to acquire a closer knowledge of the Creator.

What are the rules for?

Christians with experience know them by heart, but every Orthodox person should have a “Prayer Book” filled with texts of appeals not only for morning and evening, but for all occasions.

A prayer rule is a list of prayers. There is a common order for morning and evening sacred reading. In each individual case, the spiritual mentor corrects the prayer law, taking into account the degree of employment of a person, his place of residence and spiritual age.

Prayer rule

Often novice believers rebel against reading texts written by saints in hard-to-read language. The prayer book was written on the basis of appeals to the Lord of people who accomplished the feat of faith, lived in purity and worship of Jesus Christ and were led by the Holy Spirit.

The first model, which became an integral part of the prayer rule for morning and evening prayers, was given to His followers by the Savior Himself. "Our Father" is the main invocation with which Orthodox believers begin and end the day. daily reading prayer becomes a habit that fills the soul with God's wisdom.

The Church offers a prayer rule for beginners so that the infant soul in Christianity grows in actions pleasing to the Creator.

A daily conversation with the Creator is a live communication, not an empty phrase. The boldness of communication with the almighty God involves speaking with the right words, in which there is no emptiness.

Important! Turning to the Almighty, the Orthodox are then filled with God's knowledge and His protection, when they leave the fuss and completely immerse themselves in prayer.

How to Behave in Prayer Fellowship

Prayer communion of all Orthodox Christians is performed while standing, only the elderly and sick people can sit. While reading the prayer book in recognition of their sinfulness and imperfection, showing humility, people bow, some to the waist, while others make prostrations.

Prayer fellowship with God

Some Orthodox perform prayer communion on their knees. The holy apostles opposed such worship, explaining that only slaves kneel, children do not need to do this. (Gal. 4:7) However, having committed some kind of sin, it is not forbidden to kneel in humility, begging for forgiveness.

Beginning believers sometimes do not know how to correctly make the sign of the cross. The fingers of the right hand should be folded as follows:

  • press the little finger and ring finger to the palm, they mean that Jesus was God and man at the same time;
  • put the thumb, index and middle fingers together, three-fingered, as a symbol of the unity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

How to be baptized

Drawing a cross in the air, with folded fingers touch the middle of the forehead, then lower the hand just below the navel, move to the right, and then the left shoulder, only after that they bow.

A careless attitude to the sign of the cross, according to Chrysostom, causes joy only among demons. The sign of the cross, made with faith in reverence, is filled with God's grace and is a frightening force for demonic attacks.

Before reading spiritual texts, you should try to get rid of vain thoughts, this is sometimes not easy, so try to imagine the great sacrifice of Christ and your presence before Him in this world.

Never make your prayers "for show", in the spiritual world they will be an empty sound. Delve into every word of the appeal to the Savior, being filled with His grace and love.

Prayer Rule - Law or Grace

Many novice Orthodox are interested in the question, if prayer is a free appeal to the Creator, then why should it be adjusted to the law.

The Saratov abbot Pakhomiy, in response to such an appeal, clarifies that freedom and permissiveness should not be confused. The freedom of believers consists in the boldness of being before the throne of the Most High, which sinners and the unbaptized cannot afford. Permissiveness returns the believer to his former life, and then it is much more difficult to return under the grace of appeals to the Savior.

Not in the spiritual world consensus regarding the duration and order of prayer before the Almighty. Some people stay in reverent worship for hours, while others cannot stand even half an hour.

Regular, constant pastime in reading prayers will help to develop the habit of daily communication with the Creator, let it be 15 minutes in the evening.

Prayer rule

First you need to purchase the "Prayer Book" and read it. Sometimes an Orthodox person understands that reading out of duty turns into an empty habit, if this happens, then you can go, as St. Theophan the Recluse did, to reading psalms and scriptures from the Bible.

The main thing is to be filled with the worship of the Creator every day, to enter into His presence, to feel His protection during the day. The Evangelist Matthew wrote that in order to conquer the Kingdom of God, force must be exerted. (Mat. 11:12)

Help for the Beginning Prayer

For Orthodox believers, there are three prayer lists.

  1. The complete prayer rule is designed for spiritually steadfast believers, which include monks and clergy.
  2. The prayer rule for all the laity consists of a list of prayers read in the morning and evening, a list of which can be found in the Prayer Book:
  • in the morning: “King of Heaven”, Trisagion, “Our Father”, “Virgin Mother of God”, “Rising from sleep”, “Have mercy on me, God”, “I believe”, “God, cleanse”, “To You, Master”, “ Holy Angele”, “Most Holy Lady”, invocation of the saints, prayer for the living and the dead;
  • in the evening: “King of Heaven”, Trisagion, “Our Father”, “Have mercy on us, Lord”, “Eternal God”, “Good King”, “Angel of Christ”, from “Choose Governor” to “It is worthy to eat”.

Seraphim of Sarov offered another short prayer rule for those laity who, for some reason, are limited in time or are in unpredictable circumstances.

Icon of Seraphim of Sarov

It consists of reciting each prayer three times:

  • "Our Father";
  • "Virgin Mother of God, rejoice";
  • "I believe."

Particular attention should be paid to reading spiritual appeals to the Supreme Creator and Savior during the period of fasting, before accepting the Sacrament of Communion and at the hour of difficult life trials.

Advice! The grace of God accompanies those who began communion with God in the morning, before breakfast, and finished by reading spiritual texts before dinner.

Moral Preparation for Worship

For a novice Orthodox believer, it is advisable to purchase a “Prayer Book” in modern Russian in order to read what is written, to delve into every word, being filled with its power and grace, to receive guidance and support.

This is the advice of Nicodemus the Holy Mountaineer, which points out the importance of understanding every word of the text being read. Over time, many texts are stored in memory and read by heart.

Before reading the Prayer Book, one should ask the Holy Spirit to show if there are remnants of resentment, bitterness or irritation in the heart. Mentally forgive all the offenders and ask for forgiveness from those who were treated unfairly, this is how the Orthodox pray.

According to Tikhon of Zadonsky, all negativity should be abandoned, because, as Gregory of Nyssa wrote, the Creator is Kind, Righteous, Patient, Lover of mankind, Kind-hearted, Merciful, the purpose of the prayer rule is to transform into the image of the Creator, to acquire all the qualities for humanity.

Reading prayers at home

Jesus Christ taught in order to communicate with Him to go to one's prayer room, closing the doors from the outside world. In each Orthodox family there is a corner with icons, however, it is less and less common to find a lamp there.

Red corner in the house

Before starting to worship God, you should light a candle, it is advisable to purchase it in the temple. The family, and this is the prototype of the church, has its own rules for those who pray in solitude, and some prefer to do it together, because the strengthened prayer of the righteous can do a lot. (James 5:16)

Theophan the Recluse, who spent a lot of time in worship of God, writes that there is no need to rush when starting prayers. Having made the sign of the cross, having bowed, one should be silent for a moment, entering into a state of worship and reverence before God. Each word of prayer must come from the heart, it must not only be understood, but also felt.

Reading "Our Father";

  • give praise to the Creator Who is in Heaven;
  • submit your life to His will;
  • really forgive the debts, misdeeds of other people, for these are the necessary conditions for God to forgive each of the Orthodox;
  • ask Him for mercy in solving all material problems with the words “give us our daily bread for this day”;
  • establish over yourself protection from demons and satanic temptations;
  • proclaim the power of God in your life and His protection over you and your family.

If during the reading of the “Prayer Book” a desire appeared in your heart to ask God for some need, do not put it off for later, but immediately bring it before the prayer throne of the Almighty.

The Lord teaches His children to be constant and persevering in prayer by the example of a poor widow (Luke 18:2-6), no petition will go unanswered by Him. It is very important during communication with the Savior to discard all haste, only in a meaningful appeal can one reach out to God.

On the advice of Vladyka Anthony, in order not to be distracted by time when it is limited, you should wind up the clock so that the bell rings at the right moment. It does not matter how long the prayer rule lasts and how many prayers are read, the main thing is that they are completely dedicated to God.

Saint Ignatius calls regular prayers for sinners hard work, the righteous experience pleasure from communion with the saints and the Trinity.

If thoughts “run away”, there is no need to rush, one should return to where the scattered reading of the spiritual invocation began and start all over again. Helps you focus on readable text pronouncing all appeals aloud. It is not for nothing that they say that prayers read silently are heard by God, and those spoken aloud by demons.

Silouan of Athos noted that God does not hear the words spoken with empty thoughts and worldly deeds.

Silouan of Athos

The spirit of prayer strengthens from regularity, as the body of an athlete from training. Having finished praying, do not immediately “pounce” on worldly vain affairs, give yourself a few more minutes of being in God's grace.

Is it necessary to read prayers during the day

Once you have dedicated your life to the Lord, Orthodox people are under His protection all their lives.

Throughout the whole vain day, one should not forget to call on the mercy of the Father with the words “Bless, God!”, having passed through the test, having received a reward or blessing, having done a successful deed, do not forget to give all the glory to the Creator with the words “Glory to you, my God!” Getting into trouble, in case of illness and danger, cry out: “Save me, God!” and He will hear.

Before eating, one should not forget to thank the Creator for the food given, ask for His blessing to accept it.

Constantly abiding in prayer, acquiring the habit of crying out, thanking, asking, repenting before God with all his heart, and not with empty words, at any second, an Orthodox person becomes God-thinking. God-thinking helps to understand the goodness of the Creator, the existence Heavenly Kingdom and brings the Orthodox closer to God.

Video about the fulfillment of the prayer rule

Short Morning and Evening Prayers are short prayers that anyone can say, and when sincerely said, they have exceptional power.

People often ask: how should one pray, with what words, in what language? Some even say: “I don’t pray because I don’t know how, I don’t know prayers.” Prayer does not require any special skill. You can just talk to God. At divine services in the Orthodox Church we use a special language - Church Slavonic. But in private prayer, when we are alone with God, there is no need for any special language. We can pray to God in the language in which we speak with people, in which we think.

Prayer should be very simple. Reverend Isaac Sirin said: “Let the whole fabric of your prayer be uncomplicated. One word of the publican saved him, and one word of the thief on the cross made him heir to the Kingdom of Heaven.”

Let us recall the parable of the publican and the Pharisee: “Two men went into the temple to pray: one was a Pharisee and the other was a publican. The Pharisee, standing up, prayed in himself like this: “God! I thank You that I am not like other people, robbers, offenders, adulterers, or like this publican; I fast twice a week, I give a tenth of everything I get.” The publican, standing afar off, did not even dare to raise his eyes to heaven; but, striking his chest, he said: “God! be merciful to me, a sinner!” (Luke 18:10-13). And this brief prayer saved him. Let us also remember the thief who was crucified with Jesus and who said to Him: “Remember me, Lord, when You come into Your Kingdom” (Luke 23:42). This alone was enough for him to enter heaven.

Prayer can be extremely short. If you are just starting out on your prayer journey, start with very short prayers - ones that you can focus on. God does not need words - He needs the heart of man. Words are secondary, but the feeling, the mood with which we approach God is of paramount importance. To approach God without a sense of reverence or absent-mindedly, when our mind wanders on the side during prayer, is much more dangerous than saying the wrong word in prayer. Scattered prayer has neither meaning nor value. A simple law applies here: if the words of prayer do not reach our hearts, they will not reach God either. As is sometimes said, such a prayer will not rise above the ceiling of the room in which we pray, and yet it must reach heaven. Therefore, it is very important that every word of prayer be deeply experienced by us. If we are not able to concentrate on the long prayers that are contained in the books of the Orthodox Church - prayer books, we will try our hand at short prayers: “Lord, have mercy”, “Lord, save”, “Lord, help me”, “God, be merciful to me , a sinner."

One ascetic said that if we could, with all the force of feeling, from the bottom of our hearts, with all our souls, say only one prayer, “Lord, have mercy,” this would be enough for salvation. But the problem is that, as a rule, we cannot say this with our whole heart, we cannot say this with our whole life. Therefore, in order to be heard by God, we are verbose.

Let us remember that God wants our hearts, not our words. And if we turn to Him with all our heart, we will certainly receive an answer.

(Read three times, with the sign of the cross and a bow from the waist.)

Lord's Prayer

Our Father, Who art in heaven! Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, as in heaven and on earth. Give us our daily bread today; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Song of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Virgin Mother of God, rejoice, Blessed Mary, the Lord is with you; Blessed are you in women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, as if the Savior gave birth to our souls.

Prayer to the Holy Trinity

Having risen from sleep, I thank Thee, Holy Trinity, for many, for the sake of Thy goodness and long-suffering, have not been angry with me, lazy and sinful, below have destroyed me with my iniquities; but you usually loved humanity and in the hopelessness of the lying one raised me up, in a hedgehog to matine and glorify Your power.

(Bow)
Come, let us bow down and bow down to Christ, our King God. (Bow)
Come, let us worship and bow down to Christ Himself, the King and our God. (Bow)

Psalm 50

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy, and according to the multitude of Thy mercies, cleanse my iniquity. Wash me most of all from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin; for I know my iniquity, and my sin before me is taken out. I have sinned against you alone and done evil before you, as if you were justified in your words, and conquered when you judge Thee. Behold, in iniquities I was conceived, and in sins my mother gave birth to me. Behold, thou hast loved the truth; the unknown and secret wisdom of Thy revealed to me. Reward me the joy of Your salvation and confirm me with the dominating Spirit. I will teach the wicked in Your way, and the wicked will turn to You. Deliver me from blood, O God, God of my salvation; my tongue rejoices in thy righteousness. Lord, open my mouth, and my mouth will proclaim your praise. As if you would have desired sacrifices, you would have given them: you do not favor burnt offerings.

For us for the sake of man and for our sake of salvation, he descended from heaven and became incarnate from the Holy Spirit and Mary the Virgin and became human. Crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered, and was buried. And resurrected on the third day according to the Scriptures. And ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father. And the packs of the future with glory to judge the living and the dead, His Kingdom will have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Life-Giving One, who proceeds from the Father, Who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who spoke the prophets. Into one Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the remission of sins. I look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come. Amen.

God, cleanse me a sinner, for I have done no good before Thee; but deliver me from the evil one, and let Thy will be in me, but without condemnation I will open my unworthy mouth and praise Your holy name, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever Amen.

The prayer of the same saint

To Thee, Lord, Lover of mankind, I have risen from sleep, and I strive for Thy works by Thy mercy, and I pray to Thee: help me at all times, in all things, and deliver me from every evil worldly thing and the devil's haste, and save me, and enter into your eternal kingdom. You are my Creator and all good, the Provider and Giver, all my hope is in You, and I send glory to You, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer to the Guardian Angel

Holy Angel, stand before my accursed soul and my passionate life, do not leave me a sinner, depart from me below for my intemperance. Give no place to the crafty demon to possess me, the violence of this mortal body; strengthen my poor and thin hand and guide me on the path of salvation. Amen.

God, be merciful to me a sinner. (Bow)

Predestinatory prayer/>

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Pure Mother and all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.

Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit/>

King of Heaven, Comforter, Soul of truth, Who is everywhere and fills everything, Treasury of the good and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed, our souls.

Trisagion/>

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Read three times, with the sign of the cross and a bow from the waist.)

Prayer to the Holy Trinity/>

Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse our sins; Lord, forgive our iniquities; Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Your name's sake.

Lord have mercy. (Three times).

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Lord's Prayer/>

Our Father, Thou art in heaven! Hallowed be Thy name, Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, as in heaven and on earth. Give us our daily bread today; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Troparion Ternary/>

Having risen from sleep, we fall down to Thee, Blessed, and we cry out to Thee, Stronger, the angelic song: Holy, Holy, Holy Thou, God, have mercy on us through the Theotokos.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Thou hast raised me up from bed and sleep, O Lord, enlighten my mind and heart, and open my mouth, in which you sing to Thee, Holy Trinity: Holy, Holy, Holy, Thou, God, have mercy on us through the Theotokos.

And now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Suddenly the Judge will come, and every day the deeds will be exposed, but with fear we call at midnight: Holy, Holy, Holy art Thou, God, have mercy on us the Mother of God.

Lord have mercy. (12 times)

Prayer to the Holy Trinity/>

Rising from sleep, thank Thee, Holy Trinity, for for the sake of Thy goodness and long-suffering, Thou didst not be angry with me, lazy and sinful; but Thou didst love mankind as usual, and in the hopelessness of the lying one lifted me up, in a hedgehog to wake up and glorify Thy power. And now enlighten my mental eyes, open my mouth to learn Thy words, and understand Thy commandments, and do Thy will, and sing Thee in confession of the heart, and sing Thy all-holy name, the Father and the Son in the other, and the Holy centuries. Amen.

Come, let us worship the King our God. (Bow)

Come, let us bow down and bow down to Christ, the King of our God. (Bow)

Come, let us bow down and bow down to Christ Himself, the King and our God. (Bow)

Psalm 50/>

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy, and according to the multitude of Thy mercies cleanse my iniquity. First of all, wash me from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin; for I know my iniquity, and my sin before me is taken out. I have sinned against Thee alone and done evil before Thee, as if Thou shalt be justified in Thy words, and overcome when you judge Thee. Behold, I was conceived in iniquity, and in sins my mother gave birth to me. Behold, thou hast loved the truth; the unknown and secret wisdom of thy revealed to me. Sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Give joy and joy to my hearing; the bones of the humble shall rejoice. Turn away Your face from my sins and cleanse all my iniquities. Create a pure heart in me, O God, and renew a right spirit in my womb. Cast me not away from Thy presence, and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me. Give me the joy of Your salvation and confirm me with the dominating Spirit. I will teach the wicked in Your way, and the wicked will turn to You. Deliver me from blood, O God, God of my salvation; my tongue shall rejoice in thy righteousness. Lord, open my mouth, and my mouth will proclaim your praise. As if thou wouldst have desired sacrifices, thou wouldst have given them, but thou didst not favor burnt offerings. Sacrifice to God the spirit is broken; contrite and humble heart God will not despise. Please, O Lord, with Thy good will Zion, and let the walls of Jerusalem be built. Then be pleased with the sacrifice of righteousness, the exaltation and the burnt offering; then they will offer calves on your altar.

Symbol of faith/>

I believe in one God the Father, Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, visible to all and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Only Begotten, who was born of the Father before all ages; Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, uncreated, consubstantial with the Father, Whom all was. For the sake of us, for the sake of man and for our salvation, who descended from heaven and became incarnate from the Holy Spirit and Mary the Virgin and became human. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered, and was buried. And resurrected on the third day according to the Scriptures. And ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father. And the packs of the future with glory to judge the living and the dead, His Kingdom will have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Life-Giving One, Who proceeds from the Father, Who with the Father and the Son bows and glorifies, who spoke the prophets. Into one Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the remission of sins. I look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come. Amen.

First Prayer of Saint Macarius the Great/>

God, cleanse me a sinner, for I have done no good before You; but deliver me from the evil one, and let Thy will be in me, so that without condemnation I will open my unworthy mouth and praise Thy holy name, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer two, of the same saint/>

Rising from sleep, I bring the midnight song to Thee, Savior, and falling down crying out to Thee: do not let me fall asleep in sinful death, but have mercy on me, crucify me at will, and quicken me as I lie in laziness, and save me in anticipation and prayer, and in a dream in the night, shine upon me a sinless day, O Christ God, and save me.

Prayer three, of the same saint/>

To Thee, O Lord, Lover of mankind, I have risen from my sleep, and I strive for Thy works by Thy mercy, and I pray to Thee: help me at all times, in all things, and deliver me from every evil worldly thing and the devil’s haste, and save me enter into your eternal kingdom. For you are my Creator and all good, the Provider and Giver, all my hope is in You, and I send glory to You, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Amen.

The Fifth Prayer of Saint Basil the Great/>

Lord Almighty, God of hosts and all flesh, living in the highest and looking upon the humble, testing the hearts and wombs and secrets of people in the foreknowledge, Beginningless and Eternal Light, but with Him there is no change, or fall of change; Himself, Immortal King, accept our prayers, even at the present time, boldly for the multitude of Your bounty, we make mouths from the bad ones to You, and leave us our sins, even in deed, and in word, and in thought, in knowledge, or in unworn; and cleanse us from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit. And grant us with a cheerful heart and a sober mind the whole night of this life to pass away, waiting for the coming of the bright and revealed day of Your Only Begotten Son, the Lord and God and Savior of our Jesus Christ, in which with glory the Judge will come from him, to whom will come; Yes, not fallen and becoming lazy, but awake and exalted into the work of those who are converted, prepare for joy and the Divine chamber of His glory, even though the voice of those who are celebrating is unceasing, and the inexpressible sweetness of those who see Your face, the kindness inexpressible. Thou art the true Light, enlightening and sanctifying everything, and all creation sings to You forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer six, of the same saint/>

Let us bless Thee, the Most High God and the Lord of Mercy, who is always working with us, great and unexplored, glorious and terrible, even without number, who gave us sleep for the repose of our infirmity, and the weakening of the labors of the laborious flesh. We thank Thee, for thou didst not destroy us with our iniquities, but thou didst love mankind as usual, and in the hopelessness of us lying, thou didst raise up thou to glorify Thy power. In the same way, we pray to Your immeasurable goodness, enlighten our thoughts, eyes, and awaken our mind from the heavy sleep of laziness: open our mouth, and fulfill Your praise, so that we can unwaveringly sing and confess to God, in all, and from all praise To the Father without beginning, with Your Only Begotten Son, and Your All-Holy and Good and Life-Giving Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Seventh Prayer, to the Most Holy Theotokos/>

I sing of Your grace, Lady, I pray to You, grace my mind. Teach me the right way, by the way of Christ's commandments. Strengthen the vigil to the song, chasing away the sleep of despondency. Bound by the captives of the falls, by your prayers, resolve, God-bride. Save me in the night and in the days, delivering me those who fight the enemy. Who gave birth to the life-giver, revive me with passions. I gave birth to the non-evening Light, enlighten my blind soul. O marvelous Lady of the palace, create the house of the Divine Spirit for me. Having given birth to a doctor, heal my soul of many years of passion. Agitated by the storm of life, direct me to the path of repentance. Deliver me the eternal fire, and the evil worm, and the tartar. Yes, do not show me joy as a demon, even with many sins of the culprit. Create me new, promised insensible, Immaculate, in sin. Show me strange torments of all kinds, and beseech the Lord of all. Heavenly me, improve the fun, with all the saints, grant me. Blessed Virgin, hear the voice of Your indecent servant. Give me a stream of tears, Most Pure, cleansing my soul of filth. I bring groanings from the heart to Thee unceasingly, be zealous, Lady. Accept my prayer service, and bring it to the compassionate God. Exceeding the Angel, create the worldly me above the confluence. Light-bearing Heavenly Seine, direct spiritual grace in me. I lift up my hands and speak to praise, defiled by filth, All-blameless. Deliver the dirty tricks that have been souled by me, diligently imploring Christ; Honor and worship befits him, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Eighth prayer, to our Lord Jesus Christ/>

Many-merciful and all-merciful, my God, Lord Jesus Christ, for the sake of love, you came down and became incarnate, as if you would save everyone. And again, Save me, save me by grace, I pray Thee; if you save me from deeds, there is no grace, and a gift, but a debt more. Hey, many in generosity and unspeakable in mercy! Believe in me, thou hast said, O my Christ, he will live and will not see death forever. Otherwise, faith, even in Thee, saves the desperate, behold, I believe, save me, for you are my God and the Creator. Faith, instead of deeds, let it be reckoned to me, my God, do not find deeds that justify me from anywhere. But let that faith of mine prevail in place of all, let that one answer, that one justify me, that one show me a partaker of Your eternal glory. Let not Satan seize me, and boast, O Word, even tear me away from Your hand and fence; but either I want to, save me, or I don’t want to, Christ my Savior, beforehand soon, soon perish: for Thou art my God from my mother’s womb. Lord, help me, now love Thee, as I sometimes love that very sin; and again work for you without laziness, as if you had worked before the flattering satan. Most of all, I will work for You, the Lord and my God Jesus Christ, all the days of my life, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Ninth prayer, to the guardian angel/>

Holy Angel, stand before my accursed soul and my passionate life, do not leave me a sinner, depart from me below for my intemperance. Give no place to the crafty demon to possess me, the violence of this mortal body; Strengthen my needy and thin hand and guide me on the path of salvation. Hey, holy angel of God, guardian and patron of my accursed soul and body, forgive me all, insult you all the days of my stomach, and if you sin this past night, cover me this present day, and save me from every temptation against the enemy Yes, in no sin will I anger God, and pray for me to the Lord, may He confirm me in His fear, and show me worthy as a servant of His goodness. Amen.

  • Prayer rule- 1) daily morning and evening that Christians perform (recommended texts can be found in); 2) regulated reading of these prayers.

The rule can be general - obligatory for all or individual, selected for the believer, taking into account his spiritual state, strength and employment.

Consists of morning and evening prayers, which are performed daily. This vital rhythm is necessary, because otherwise the soul easily falls out of the life of prayer, as if waking up only from time to time. In prayer, as in any big and difficult task, "inspiration", "mood" and improvisation alone are not enough.

Reading prayers connects a person with their creators: psalmists and ascetics. This helps to find a spiritual mood akin to their burning heart. In praying in other people's words, our example is the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. His prayer exclamations during the suffering on the Cross are lines from ().

There are three basic prayer rules:
    1) The complete prayer rule, which is printed in "";

    2) Brief prayer rule. Lay people sometimes have situations when there is little time and energy left for prayer, and in this case it is better to read a short rule with attention and reverence than hastily and superficially, without a prayerful mood - the whole rule. The holy fathers teach to treat their prayer rule with reason, on the one hand, not giving indulgences to their passions, laziness, self-pity and others that can destroy a correct spiritual dispensation, and on the other hand, to learn to shorten or even slightly change the rule without temptation and embarrassment when there is a real need for it.

    in the morning : “King of Heaven”, Trisagion, “”, “Virgin Mother of God”, “Rising from sleep”, “God have mercy on me”, “”, “God, cleanse me”, “To You, Vladyka”, “Holy Angel”, “ Blessed Lady”, invocation of the saints, prayer for the living and the dead;
    in the evening : “King of Heaven”, Trisagion, “Our Father”, “Have mercy on us, Lord”, “Eternal God”, “Good King”, “Angel of Christ”, from “Choose Governor” to “It is worthy to eat”;

Is it good if the prayer rule is larger: in addition to the usual morning and evening prayers - akathists, canons?

The most important thing in the fulfillment of the prayer rule is its constant daily fulfillment. If necessary, it is reduced. You must have such a rule that it does not exceed your strength and that your conscience does not reproach you for laziness.

Morning and evening rules are only necessary spiritual hygiene. We are commanded to pray without ceasing (see). The holy fathers said: if you churn milk, you will get butter, and in prayer, it turns from quantity into quality.

“In order for a rule to become not an obstacle, but a real mover of a person to God, it is necessary that it be in proportion to his spiritual strength, correspond to his spiritual age and state of mind. Many people, not wanting to burden themselves, consciously choose prayer rules that are too light, which because of this become formal and do not bear fruit. But sometimes a great rule, chosen out of unreasonable jealousy, also becomes a shackle, plunging into despondency and preventing one from growing spiritually.
The rule is not a frozen form, during the course of life it must necessarily change both qualitatively and externally.

In the last 3 weeks, 2 people have approached me with a request to teach them how to pray. I was a little surprised (although pleased) because I do not have any kind of clergy or religious education, so it is strange that they asked such a question to me. But in fact, these people simply did not even know who to ask such questions, and the need of the soul for prayer was ripe.

I do not own dignity and education, but I will share my experience with pleasure. My knowledge of the prayer rule is based on what my spiritual mentor recommended to me and on those lectures of the holy fathers that I listened to. I will try to explain everything as simply as possible. So, if you are interested in information of this kind, then welcome under cat. If you have any questions on the topic - welcome to the comments; questions about "how I, a person with 2 higher educations, believe in aboriginal fairy tales", please do not send :)

    What do I need?
Select a corner in your home in which you will have icons. Icons should not be nailed to the wall, it is better that they stand on something (a shelf or stand). Be sure to purchase an icon of Jesus Christ and Holy Mother of God, and the faces of other saints - at will. By the way, as a rule, very kind grandmothers work in church stalls, who will gladly answer all your questions. Just come during the day, when there is no service and few people, and ask you to tell more about the icons that you like.

What is the best way to pray?
It is best to pray standing, in front of the icons, with a straight back. Place your hands in a boat near your chest. During prayer, the eyes can be kept both closed and open. With open eyes, you will be able to see the icons, in which there is actually so much purity and light that sometimes it is simply impossible to take your eyes off. With closed eyes, you are immersed in a certain meditation, so it is more convenient to focus on prayer. So the choice is yours. If possible, read the prayers out loud. If not, whisper. Most likely, during prayer, your mind will constantly disappear and you will think about something else. It's okay, it happens to everyone, especially at first. Just keep track of these moments and return your thoughts and heart to prayer.

When is the best time to pray?
You need to read prayers in the morning and in the evening. Take a shower in the morning, brush your teeth, and only then proceed to prayer. In the evening, it is best to read prayers before going to bed. Before reading prayers, you need to say "In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit" three times and at the same time cross yourself three times. With the same words (also three times) it is necessary to end the prayer rule.

    What prayers to read
There are 2 options here. The first one is complete and most correct. All prayers are read 3 times. Perhaps, at first glance, the list of prayers seems too long and the prayers themselves too, but in fact, reading all the prayers three times takes 15 minutes. The second option is a short one, mainly for those who have little time or who are just starting to pray and a large number of prayers scares them a little. It takes about 1.5 minutes. So, how much time a day to devote to prayer - half an hour or 3 minutes, everyone decides for himself. God will accept both options :)) I also highly recommend turning to God and the saints in your own words every time after prayers. You can talk about your problems and experiences, about what weighs on your heart. You can talk about dreams and ask for mercy. But remember, you can ask for anything and for anyone, but not material goods.

    1 option:

  • Prayer to the Holy Trinity
  • Prayer to the Holy Spirit
  • Trisagion
  • Our Father
  • Virgin Mary, rejoice

  • Prayer for the dead
  • Symbol of faith.

    Option 2:

  • Our Father - 3 times
  • Virgin Mary, rejoice - 3 times
  • Creed - 1 time.

Below is the text of all the prayers. By the way, prayers to the Guardian Angel, the Mother of God and for the departed, you can pick up others, those that you like best. A lot of them. Can be found on the Internet or in the Prayer Book (A prayer book can be bought at any church).

    Prayer to the Holy Trinity
Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse our sins; Lord, forgive our iniquities; Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Your name's sake.

    Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of Truth, Who is everywhere and fills everything, Treasury of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed, our souls.

    Trisagion
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (It is read three times, with the sign of the cross and a bow from the waist).
Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

    Our Father
Our Father, Who art in heaven! Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, as in heaven and on earth. Give us our daily bread today; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

    Virgin Mary, rejoice
Virgin Mother of God, rejoice, Gracious Mary, the Lord is with you: blessed are you in women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, as if you gave birth to our souls as the Savior.

Prayer to the Holy Cross of the Lord
(with this prayer, Father Anatoly in the film "The Island" casts out the demon from the daughter of Admiral Tikhon. Yesterday we watched it with our parents)
Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered, and let those who hate Him flee from His presence. As the smoke disappears, let them disappear; as wax melts from the face of fire, so let the demons perish from the face of those who love God, and are marked by the sign of the cross, and say in joy: Rejoice, Most Pure and Life-giving Cross of the Lord, drive away the demons by the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, crucified on you, descended into hell, and who corrected the power of the devil, and gave us His Honorable Cross to you to drive away every adversary. O Most Honorable and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord! Help me with the Holy Lady Virgin Mother of God, and with all the saints forever. Amen.

Psalm 90 ("Alive in the help of the Most High")
Alive in the help of the Most High, in the blood of the God of Heaven will settle. The Lord says: Thou art my intercessor and my refuge, my God, and I trust in Him. As if He will deliver thee from the net of the hunter, and from the rebellious word, His splash will overshadow thee, and under His wings you hope: His truth will be your weapon. Do not be afraid of the fear of the night, from the arrow flying in the days, from the things in the darkness of the transient, from the scum, and the demon of the afternoon. A thousand will fall from your country, and darkness at your right hand, but it will not come close to you, both look at your eyes, and see the reward of sinners. As you, O Lord, are my hope, the Most High have laid down your refuge. Evil will not come to you, and the wound will not approach your body, as if by His Angel a commandment about you, save you in all your ways. They will take you in their hands, but not when you stumble your foot on a stone, step on the asp and the basilisk, and cross the lion and the serpent. For I have trusted in Me, and I will deliver, and I will cover, and, as I know My name. He will call to Me, and I will hear him: I am with him in sorrow, I will crush him, and I will glorify him, I will fulfill him with long life, and I will show him My salvation.

    Prayer to the Guardian Angel
Angel of God, my holy guardian, given to me from God from heaven to keep. I diligently pray to you: enlighten me today, and save me from all evil, guide me to a good deed and direct me to the path of salvation.

Prayer to the Mother of God
What to pray to You, what to ask of You? You see everything, you know Itself, look into my soul and give her what she needs. You, who have endured everything, overcome everything, you will understand everything. You, who raised the Child in a manger and accepted Him with Your hands from the Cross, You alone know the whole height of joy, all the oppression of grief. You, who received the whole human race as an adoption, look at me with maternal care. Lead me from the shadows of sin to Your Son. I see a tear that irrigated Your face. It's over me You shed it and let it wash away the traces of my sins. Here I have come, I am standing, I am waiting for Your response, oh Mother of God, oh All-Singing, oh Lady! I don't ask for anything, I just stand before You. Only my heart, a poor human heart, exhausted in anguish for truth, I throw at Your clean feet, Lady! May all who call upon You reach the eternal day with You and bow down before You face to face.

    For the departed
For the sake of the precious blood of Jesus, save, Heavenly Father, our dear departed ones and let them return through the holy angels to the hearth of Your eternal love. Mother of God, Comforter of poor souls, and you, Angels and Archangels, ask for them! Give them back. Lord, for I myself cannot, for the good they have done me. In the name of Jesus - forgiveness and mercy

Crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried. And resurrected on the third day according to the Scriptures. And ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father. And the packs of the future with glory to judge the living and the dead, His Kingdom will have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord of Life, Who proceeds from the Father, Who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who spoke the prophets. Into one Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the remission of sins. I look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come. Amen.

  • In detail: short morning and evening prayers - from all open sources and from different parts of the world on the site site for our dear readers.

The Monk Isaac the Syrian said: “Let the whole fabric of your prayer be simple.

    Prayer book

Thus, cultivating a reasonable attitude to the rule of prayer, St.

Another said: “standing at prayer, stand as at the Last Judgment, when God’s decisive decision about you is ready to come out: depart or come.”

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

The prayer of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Pure Mother and all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.

Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of Truth, Who is everywhere and fills everything, Treasury of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed, our souls.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us.
(Read three times, with the sign of the cross and a bow from the waist.)

(Bow)

Come, let us bow down and bow down to Christ, our King God. (Bow)
Come, let us worship and bow down to Christ Himself, the King and our God. (Bow)

For us for the sake of man and for our sake of salvation, he descended from heaven and became incarnate from the Holy Spirit and Mary the Virgin and became human. First Prayer of Saint Macarius the Great

To her, the holy Angel of God, the guardian and patron of my accursed soul and body, forgive me all, insult you with great insults all the days of my stomach, and if I have sinned this past night, cover me this present day, and save me from every temptation of the opposite Yes, in no sin will I anger God, and pray for me to the Lord, may he confirm me in His fear, and show me worthy of His servant of goodness. Amen.

Prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos

My Most Holy Lady, the Theotokos, with Thy holy and all-powerful supplications, expel from me, Thy humble and cursed servant, despondency, oblivion, foolishness, negligence, and all filthy, crafty and blasphemous thoughts from my wretched heart and from my darkened mind; and extinguish the flame of my passions, for I am poor and cursed. And deliver me from many and fierce memories and enterprises, and from all the actions of evil free me.

Compiled using materials from the book:

How to learn to pray at home. Moscow, "The Ark", 2004. Trifonov Pechenga Monastery

Complete collection and description: morning and evening prayer for every day for the spiritual life of a believer.

Every person sometimes has in his soul an experience and suffering for loved ones or for himself. In difficult life moments, prayer to the Lord is simply necessary, because everyone who asks for help always receives it. But not all prayers are understandable, some seem long and some difficult to read. If you find it difficult to read Church prayers, you can pray in your own words, that is, as your heart and soul prompts. You can also choose the simplest Orthodox prayers. Orthodox morning and evening prayer is short, will allow you to cleanse yourself spiritually and always feel easy and good.

What is a prayer and how to read it correctly

Every believer should not only delve into the words of the prayer, but also meditate on them, and also do it correctly. The usual appeal to the Lord for help and gratitude is a prayer. God hears everyone, he sees everything we do and loves us. You need to pray only when there is no evil and resentment in the heart. If someone has greatly upset and offended you, first pray for his health and wish him well.

The correct reading of a prayer depends primarily on whether the believer does it. Reading time depends on closeness to the Lord. The clergy assure that the soul, which during the earthly life was not close to God, will be doomed to hellish torments. Believers will receive eternal bliss. We must turn to the Lord both in joy and in sorrow, not only in moments when we are in great need of something. If a person sincerely and wholeheartedly asks God for help, then the Almighty will surely hear and help him.

    What are the prayers

God gives each person what he needs: health, well-being, abilities, sorrows. For this we must thank him, and reading prayers is the only way to express gratitude.

If a person has some kind of misfortune and misfortune, then you need to ask for help in order to solve the problem as soon as possible. For this, prayers of supplication should be read.

Prayers of repentance are read at the moments when a person wants to, they rest before the Lord for their sins.

When to Read the Morning and Evening Prayer

The exact time for reading prayers is clearly spelled out in the prayer book. Morning prayer should be read immediately after waking up, before the start of the day. Evening prayers are read at the end of the working day, and only after the person has done all the work. In the event that you are not going to sleep at night due to leaving for work, then you do not need to ask for a blessing for future sleep. The only thing you can read other prayers or the gospel.

Waking up in the morning, before any other deed, reverently cross yourself, mentally imagining the Almighty right in front of you, say: In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen. Further, bringing thoughts and feelings to full agreement, rejecting earthly worries, finding inner peace, read the following: God, be merciful to me a sinner. (The Gospel of Luke, ch. 28, verse 15) Having spoken such a short, but very weighty appeal to the publican, bow as if the Lord were before you.

Lord: Our Father, who art in heaven! Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, as in heaven and on earth. Give us our daily bread today; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

    Prayer rule

Prayer rule- daily morning and evening prayers performed by Christians. Their texts can be found in the prayer book.

The rule can be general - obligatory for all or individual, selected for the believer by the confessor, taking into account his spiritual state, strength and employment.

His prayer exclamations during the sufferings on the Cross are lines from psalms (Ps. 21:2; 30:6).

There are three basic prayer rules:

    1) The complete prayer rule, which is printed in the "Orthodox Prayer Book";

    2) Brief prayer rule. Lay people sometimes have situations when there is little time and energy left for prayer, and in this case it is better to read a short rule with attention and reverence than hastily and superficially, without a prayerful mood - the whole rule. The holy fathers teach to treat their prayer rule with reason, on the one hand, not giving indulgences to their passions, laziness, self-pity and others that can destroy a correct spiritual dispensation, and on the other hand, to learn to shorten or even slightly change the rule without temptation and embarrassment when there is a real need for it.

    in the morning: “King of Heaven”, Trisagion, “Our Father”, “Virgin Mother of God”, “Rising from sleep”, “God have mercy on me”, “Symbol of faith”, “God, cleanse”, “To You, Master”, “Holy Angela”, “Most Holy Lady”, invocation of the saints, prayer for the living and the dead;

    in the evening: “King of Heaven”, Trisagion, “Our Father”, “Have mercy on us, Lord”, “Eternal God”, “Good King”, “Angel of Christ”, from “Choose Governor” to “It is worthy to eat”;

    3) Short Prayer Rule Reverend Seraphim Sarovsky: three times "Our Father", three times "Virgin Mother of God" and once "Symbol of Faith" - for those exceptional days and circumstances when a person is extremely tired or very limited in time.

It is undesirable to completely omit the prayer rule. Even if the prayer rule is read without due attention, the words of the prayers, penetrating into the soul, have their cleansing effect.

Basic prayers should be known by heart (with regular reading they are gradually remembered by a person even with a very poor memory), so that they penetrate deeper into the heart and so that they can be repeated in any circumstances. It is advisable to study the text of the translation of prayers from Church Slavonic into Russian (see "Explanatory prayer book"), in order to understand the meaning of each word and not to pronounce a single word meaninglessly or without accurate understanding. It is very important that the person approaching prayer banish resentment, irritation, and bitterness from the heart. Without efforts aimed at serving people, at fighting sin, at establishing control over the body and the spiritual sphere, prayer cannot become the inner core of life.

In the conditions of modern life, given the workload and accelerated pace, it is not easy for the laity to set aside a certain time for prayer. Haste is the enemy of morning prayer, and fatigue is the enemy of evening prayer..

Morning prayers are best read before the start of any business (and before breakfast). In extreme cases, they are pronounced on the way from home. Late in the evening it is often difficult to concentrate due to fatigue, so it can be recommended to read the evening prayer rule in free minutes before dinner or even earlier.

During prayer, it is recommended to retire, light a lamp or a candle and stand in front of the icon. Depending on the nature of intra-family relationships, one can recommend reading the prayer rule together, with the whole family, or for each family member separately. Common prayer is recommended before eating food, on solemn days, before a festive meal, and on other similar occasions. Family prayer is a kind of church, public prayer (the family is a kind of “home church”) and therefore does not replace individual prayer, but only complements it.

Before the beginning of prayer, one should make the sign of the cross and make several bows, half-length or earthly, and try to tune in to an inner conversation with God. The difficulty of prayer is often a sign of its true effectiveness.

Prayer for other people (see commemoration book) is an integral part of prayer. Standing before God does not alienate a person from his neighbors, but binds him to them with even closer ties. We should not be limited only to prayer for those close and dear to us. Praying for those who have caused us grief brings peace to the soul, affects these people and makes our prayer sacrificial.

It is good to end the prayer with thanksgiving to God for the gift of fellowship and contrition for one's inattention. Getting down to business, you must first think about what you have to say, do, see during the day and ask God for blessings and strength to follow His will. In the midst of a busy day, you need to say a short prayer (see The Jesus Prayer), which will help you find the Lord in everyday affairs.

Is it possible to shorten the prayer rule?

This question worries many modern people. However, it seems that it is impossible to give an unambiguous answer to it, “yes” or “no”, regardless of the circumstances.

On the one hand, the rule exists in order to comply with it. The importance of the prayer rule lies in the fact that it orients the Christian in the right direction.

The rules of prayer included in the composition contribute to the formation of the proper relationship of the pilgrim with God, the saints and, in general, with neighbors, protecting him from the actions of evil forces and inner passions.

Many, if they did not have this saving rule, perhaps they would not even know how exactly, about what exactly and with what regularity one should pray to God and His saints.

On the other hand, there are various situations in life when a believer, either due to physical or spiritual weakness, or due to other reasons (for example, in the case of especially responsible shifts and duties, guards, active hostilities), regularly read the entire prayer rule is either extremely difficult, or almost impossible.

In such a case, it should be remembered that the prayer rule, although it is a rule that implies the appropriateness of its implementation, however, does not imply an absolute, unconditional need for its observance.

Sometimes it is better to read fewer prayers, but sincerely and with zeal (from the heart), than all (constituting a complete rule), but “formally” (carelessly, pattering, jumping over lines, etc.).

There are, by the way, abbreviated versions of the prayer rule.

But still, in case of doubts about this, it makes sense to seek a specific recommendation from an experienced, spiritually wise pastor, confessor.

Morning and evening rules are only necessary spiritual hygiene. We are commanded to pray without ceasing (see the Jesus Prayer).

St. Theophan the Recluse briefly systematizes advice on reading the prayer rule:

“a) never read in a hurry, but read as if in a singsong voice… In ancient times, all prayers read were taken from psalms… But I don’t see the word “read” anywhere, but everywhere “sing”…

    b) delve into every word and not only reproduce the thought of what you read in your mind, but also arouse a corresponding feeling ...

    c) in order to cut off the urge for hasty reading, put - not read this and that, but stand on the reading prayer for a quarter of an hour, half an hour, an hour ... how long you usually stand ... and then do not worry ... how many prayers you read - but how the time has come, if not hunting to stand further, stop reading ...

    d) having put this down, however, do not look at the clock, but stand like that so as to stand endlessly: the thought will not run ahead ...

    e) in order to promote the movement of prayerful feelings in your free time, reread and rethink all the prayers that are included in your rule - and re-feel them, so that when you begin to read them on the rule, you know in advance what feeling should be aroused in the heart ...

    f) never read prayers without interruption, but always interrupt them with your own prayer, with bows, whether in the middle of prayers you have to do this or at the end. As soon as something falls into your heart, immediately stop reading and bow down. This last rule is the most necessary and most necessary for cultivating the spirit of prayer ... If some other feeling takes a lot, you will be with him and bow, and leave the reading ... so until the very end of the allotted time.

    Morning prayers for every day

Each new day brings new difficulties, ups and downs. Without God's protection, disappointment, despondency, and troubles overtake us faster. Praying in the morning is very important in order to enlist the support of the Almighty at the very beginning of the day.

This prayer is not just universal, but mandatory for any believing Christian. It is read not only before meals or in difficult moments of life, but also in the morning. After opening your eyes and waking up from a dream, take one minute to read this prayer to pay tribute to heaven, because they have awakened you and given you another day of life. The text of the prayer is familiar to everyone and everyone:

Our Father, Who art in heaven! Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, as in heaven and on earth. Give us our daily bread today; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

    Prayers for material well-being

Much has been said about prayers that have the power to make our lives better. But it is also important to go to meet God ourselves. After all, only with inner readiness and awareness of the true path comes the help of Heaven.

If you are facing financial problems, you too can turn to Heaven for help. It is only important to do it right, not with greed in the soul, but by asking God for what is necessary. Learn about prayers for deliverance from poverty on the website of an Orthodox monastery.

    Prayer to the Holy Trinity

To begin with, the text of the prayer itself is read:

Then you can repeat three times: “Lord, have mercy,” and complete the morning prayer with the words “Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen".

The Holy Trinity is the three incarnations of God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Each of these components is our assistants in earthly affairs. Collectively, the Trinity is God, therefore, reading this prayer, you ask our Creator to give his mercy and forgive you all your sins - those that were committed intentionally, and those that you have not yet been able to cope with.

    Publican's Prayer

“God, be merciful to me, a sinner,” is the simplest of all protective prayers. It is good to read it not only in the morning, but also before any undertaking, before leaving the house and before a difficult task.

Do not underestimate these words and think that prayer is the better, the more difficult and longer. This is absolutely not true, because the most important thing is your spiritual attitude and your faith, and not your ability to remember.

    Prayer to the Holy Spirit

“King of Heaven, Comforter, Soul of Truth, Who is everywhere and fills everything, Treasury of the good and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed One, our souls.”

This is a simple prayer - quite rare, difficult to perceive, but very effective and ancient. It can be read before meals and in the morning.

Another simple prayer known to almost every Christian:

“Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. »

Remember that attitude matters. Do not say prayers when in a bad mood or if your thoughts are busy with something else. You need total concentration, because you are communicating with God. Even simple prayer words for help will be heard if they are spoken from pure heart. Good luck and don't forget to press the buttons and

Prayer is our conversation with God. In it we can talk with Him about our affairs, share joy and experiences, we can thank Him, ask and apologize.

Prayer can be personal - when we pray ourselves, or collective - when we gather together with others in the temple or in the family circle.

During the day we do a lot of things, there are many different troubles. Sometimes we forget to do something. However, prayer should never be forgotten.

Prayer is our most important activity. It is very important to pray morning prayers and evening prayers.

    daily prayers

Daily prayers are those prayers that the Church teaches to pray every day, i.e. morning, evening or during the day.

In the morning, waking up from sleep, we thank God for a good night and ask for blessings for the whole day. We say daily and morning prayers.

In the evening, when we go to bed, we give thanks for the day and pray for a good night's rest. We say daily and evening prayers.

    Cross sign

We always begin and end each prayer with the sign of the cross. Making the sign of the cross

we reveal our faith, therefore we must be baptized very carefully. To make the sign of the cross, we put together three fingers (thumb, index and middle) of the right hand (this symbolizes the Holy Trinity), and bend the ring finger and little finger to the palm (this means that Jesus Christ is both God and man). Therefore, raising right hand to the forehead, we say: “In the name of the Father”, then, putting this hand on the chest, “and the Son”, then on the right shoulder “and the Holy Spirit”, and putting it on the left shoulder, we finish - “Amen”.

We start the prayer like this:

Through the prayers of our holy fathers, Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us. Amen.

    Prayer to the Holy Spirit

The text of the prayer to the Holy Spirit.

Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of truth, Who is everywhere and fills everything, Treasury of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save our souls, Good One.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

    Lord's Prayer

Our Father, Thou art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, both in heaven and on earth. Give us our daily bread today; and forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.

    Lord have mercy (12).

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Come, let us worship our King - God.

Come, let us worship Christ, our King - God.

Come, let us bow down and fall before the very Lord Jesus Christ, our King and God.

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy, and according to the multitude of Thy mercies

The text of the prayer 50 psalm

    cleanse my iniquity.

First of all, wash me from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

For I acknowledge my iniquity, and my sin is before me.

I have sinned against you alone and done evil to you, then you are right in your words and you will overcome when you judge.

This is because in iniquity I was conceived, and in sin my mother bore me.

This is why he loved the truth, it is unknown and the secret wisdom of his revealed to me.

Boil me with hyssop and I will be clean; wash me and I will be whiter than snow.

Let me hear joy and gladness, the broken bones will rejoice.

Hide Your face from my sins and cleanse all my iniquities.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit in my womb.

Cast me not away from Thy presence, and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.

Give me back the joy of Your salvation and strengthen me with the Spirit of the Master.

I will show the way to the wicked, Your wicked will turn to You.

Deliver me from blood, O God, God of my salvation, and my tongue will glorify Your righteousness.

Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will proclaim your praise.

Therefore, if You wanted a sacrifice, I would give it, and burnt offerings are not dear to You.

Sacrifice to God - the spirit is broken, the heart of the contrite and humble God will not despise. Benefit, O Lord, with Thy favor Zion, and let the walls of Jerusalem be built.

Then be pleased with the sacrifice of righteousness, offerings and burnt offerings; then calves will be offered on Your altar.

    Symbol of faith

I believe in one God the Father, the Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, of everything visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Only Begotten, begotten of the Father before all ages; Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, uncreated, being with the Father, through whom everything happened.

For us for the sake of man and for our sake of salvation, he descended from heaven and was incarnated from the Holy Spirit and Mary the Virgin, and came into being a man.

He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered, and was buried, and rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures. And he ascended into heaven and sat at the right hand of the Father. And suddenly he will come with glory to judge the living and the dead, and there will be no end to the Kingdom.

And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord of life-creating, from the Father, he proceeds, with the Father and the Son equally worshiped and glorified, he spoke through the prophets.

    Divine Liturgy

Original gift - caricature from a photograph - captivate

It is quite difficult for an ignorant person who is just opening the way to the Lord to immediately understand the numerous rules of the Orthodox religion. Two things serve as a very simple short road to the Lord - faith in the Almighty and prayers addressed to him and the saints.

But with what sacred texts to start the day? The answer lies on the surface - from the morning appeals. Accordingly, in the evening - the day ends.

The key morning texts are: the Trisagion, God have mercy on me, Our Father, the Symbol of Faith and, we strongly recommend Appeals to the Guardian Angel, Jesus Christ, the Mother of God. They ask for a blessing, patronage for the whole day. In addition, a large number of morning texts are presented in the prayer book.

    morning prayers

Below is a detailed list of brief description actions during a religious ceremony, as well as a note to some of the sacred formulas.

    Brief

Waking up in the morning, before any other deed, reverently cross yourself, mentally imagining the Almighty right in front of you, say:

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

God, have mercy on me a sinner. (Gospel of Luke, ch. 28, verse 15)

Having spoken such a short, but very weighty appeal to the publican, bow as if the Lord were before you.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Pure Mother and all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.

Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.

Cross with a bow. This should be done when working with any sacred text.

Text next: To the Holy Spirit

Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of Truth, Who is everywhere and fills everything, Treasury of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed, our souls.

Note: From Easter to Ascension, instead of this prayer, a troparion is read: "Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and bestowing life on those in the tombs." (Thrice) From Ascension to Trinity, we begin prayers with "Holy God ...", omitting all the previous ones.

This remark also applies to prayers for the coming sleep.

There is a note here. Pay attention to them - this is important.

    Trisagion:

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Read three times, with the sign of the cross and a bow from the waist.)

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Bow to the waist - this is important.

Next text: To the Holy Trinity

Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse our sins; Lord, forgive our iniquities; Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Your name's sake.
    Lord have mercy. (Thrice).
Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen
Note: When “Glory”, “And now” is written, it must be read in full: “Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit”, “Now and ever and forever and ever. Amen"

    Trinity Troparion:

Rising from sleep, we fall down to Thee, Blessed, and cry out to the angelic song of Thee, Stronger: Holy, Holy, Holy Thou, God, have mercy on us the Mother of God.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Thou hast raised me up from bed and sleep, O Lord, enlighten my mind and heart, and open my lips, in hedgehog to sing Thee, Holy Trinity: Holy, Holy, Holy, O God, have mercy on us with the Theotokos.
And now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.
Suddenly the Judge will come, and every day the deeds will be exposed, but with fear we call at midnight: Holy, Holy, Holy art thou, God, have mercy on us through the Theotokos.
    Lord have mercy. (12 times)

    Long

    Holy Trinity:

Having risen from sleep, I thank Thee, Holy Trinity, for many, for the sake of Thy goodness and long-suffering, have not been angry with me, lazy and sinful, below have destroyed me with my iniquities; but you usually loved humanity and in the hopelessness of the lying one raised me up, in a hedgehog to matine and glorify Your power.
(Bow)
Come, let us bow down and bow down to Christ, our King God. (Bow)
Come, let us worship and bow down to Christ Himself, the King and our God. (Bow).

    Psalm 50:

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy, and according to the multitude of Thy mercies, cleanse my iniquity. Wash me most of all from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin; for I know my iniquity, and my sin before me is taken out. I have sinned against you alone and done evil before you, as if you were justified in your words, and conquered when you judge Thee. Behold, I was conceived in iniquity, and in sins give birth to me, my mother. Behold, thou hast loved the truth; the unknown and secret wisdom of Thy revealed to me.

    Symbol of faith:

I believe in one God the Father, Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, visible to all and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Only Begotten, who was born of the Father before all ages; Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, uncreated, consubstantial with the Father, Whom all was.

Rising from sleep, I bring the midnight song to Thee, Savior, and falling down crying out to Thee: do not let me fall asleep in a sinful death, but have mercy on me, crucified by will, and speeding me up lying in laziness, and save me in anticipation and prayer, and after a dream in the night, shine upon me a sinless day, Christ God, and save me.

Amen.

Lord, with Thy many goodness and Thy great bounties Thou hast given me, Thy servant, the past time of this night without adversity to pass from all evil; You Yourself, Master, of all Creators, vouchsafe me with Your true light and an enlightened heart to do Your will, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

After reading prayers to St. Basil:

Lord Almighty, God of strength and all flesh, living in the highest and looking down on the humble, test the hearts and wombs and the secrets of people in the foreknowledge, Beginningless and Eternal Light, with Him there is no change, or change overshadowing; Himself, the Immortal King, accept our prayers, even at the present time, boldly on the multitude of Your bounties, from bad mouths to You, and leave us our sins, even in deed, and in word, and thought, knowledge, or ignorance, we have sinned; and cleanse us from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit. And grant us with an invigorating heart and a sober thought the whole night of our present life, awaiting the coming of the bright and revealed day of Your Only Begotten Son, the Lord and God and Savior of our Jesus Christ, in which the Judge of all will come with glory, give to anyone according to his deeds; yes, not fallen and lazy, but awake and exalted in the work of the future, prepare, in joy and the Divine chamber of His glory, we will live, where the unceasing voice is celebrating, and the indescribable sweetness of those who see Your face is inexpressible kindness. Thou art the true Light, enlightening and sanctifying everything, and all creation sings to You forever and ever. Amen.

Let us bless you, the highest God and Lord of mercy, who is always working with us, great and unexplored, glorious and terrible, there is no number of them, who gave us sleep for the repose of our infirmities, and the weakening of the labors of the much-difficult flesh. The same we pray to Your immeasurable goodness, enlighten our thoughts, eyes, and lift our minds from the heavy sleep of laziness: open our mouths, and fulfill Your praise, as if we could unswervingly sing and confess to You, in all, and from all to the glorious God, The Beginningless Father, with Your Only Begotten Son, and Your All-Holy and Good and Life-Giving Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Many-merciful and all-merciful, my God, Lord Jesus Christ, many for the sake of love descended and became incarnate, as if you would save everyone. Funeral: For health

Remember, Lord Jesus Christ, our God, Thy mercy and bounty from the ages of existence, for their sake, and became human, and crucifixion and death, for the sake of the right of those who believe in You, deign to endure; and you rose from the dead, you ascended into heaven and sit at the right hand of God the Father, and look down on the humble prayers of those who call on you with all your heart: incline your ear, and hear the humble prayer of me, your indecent servant, in the stench of spiritual fragrance, offering you for all your people .

(Bow)
Save, Lord, and have mercy on the old and the young, the poor and orphans and widows, and those who are in sickness and sorrow, troubles and sorrows, circumstances and captivity, dungeons and imprisonment, rather in persecution, for the sake of Thee and the Orthodox faith, from the tongue of the godless, from the apostate and from the heretics, who are your servants, and remember, visit, strengthen, comfort, and soon by your strength I will weaken, give them freedom and deliver. Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Pure Mother, our reverend and God-bearing fathers and all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.
Note: From Easter to Ascension, instead of this prayer, the refrain and irmos of the 9th song of the Easter canon are read:
“An angel crying out more graciously: Pure Virgin, rejoice! And pack the river: rejoice! Your Son is risen three days from the tomb and raised up the dead; folks, have fun!
Shine, shine, new Jerusalem, the glory of the Lord is upon you. Rejoice now and rejoice, Sione. But you, Pure One, show off, Mother of God, about the rise of Your Nativity.

    Evening prayers

Read before bed. A man thanks the Lord for a good day, meekly asks for a blessing on the coming dream, addresses with repentance for the expected or accidental sins committed by him throughout the day.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

It is with such an appeal that it is necessary to begin a prayer service, consisting of reading several prayers on occasion: in ours - before going to bed.

    Jesus Christ

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Pure Mother, our reverend and God-bearing fathers and all of us, have mercy on us. Amen.
Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.

    Heavenly king

Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of Truth, Who is everywhere and fills everything, Treasure of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed, our souls.

(For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.)

    Trinity Troparion

Rising from sleep, we fall down to Thee, Blessed, and cry out to the Angelic song of Thee, Stronger: holy, holy, holy art thou, God, have mercy on us the Mother of God.
Glory: Thou hast raised me up from bed and sleep, O Lord: enlighten my mind and heart, and open my mouth, in hedgehog to sing Thee, Holy Trinity: holy, holy, holy Thou, God, have mercy on us with the Theotokos.
And now: Suddenly, the Judge will come, and every day the deeds will be exposed, but we call with fear at midnight: holy, holy, holy art thou, God, have mercy on us the Mother of God.
    Lord have mercy (12 times).

    To the Holy Trinity

Rising from sleep, I thank Thee, Holy Trinity, for many, for the sake of Thy goodness and long-suffering, were not angry with me, lazy and sinful, below you destroyed me with my iniquities: but you usually loved humanity, and in the hopelessness of the lying one raised me up, in a hedgehog matin and glorify your power. And now enlighten my mental eyes, open my mouth to learn Thy words and understand Thy commandments, and do Thy will, and sing Thee in confession of the heart, and sing of Thy holy name, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and forever and ever . Amen.

For I know my iniquity, and my sin is before me. I have sinned alone and done evil before Thee: that thou shalt be justified in Thy words and overcome when thou judgest. I will be cleansed with hyssop, and I will be whiter than snow. Give joy and gladness to my ears, and the humble bones will rejoice. Turn Thy face from my sins, and cleanse all my iniquity. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit. in my womb. Cast me not away from Thy presence, and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me. Give me back the joy of Thy salvation, and strengthen me by your sovereign Spirit. God of my salvation, rejoice my tongue is thy truth. Lord, open my mouth, and my mouth will proclaim your praise. As if you would have desired sacrifices, you would have given them: you do not favor burnt offerings.

Sacrifice to God - the spirit is contrite: the heart is contrite and humble, God will not despise. Please, O Lord, with Thy favor Zion, and let the walls of Jerusalem be built. Then be pleased with the sacrifice of righteousness, the offering and the burnt offering; then they will offer calves on Your altar.)

    Jesus Christ Lord

(To Thee, O Lord, Lover of mankind, I have risen from sleep, and I strive for Thy works by Thy mercy, and let me pray to Thee: help me at all times, in all things, and deliver me from every evil worldly thing and the devil's haste, and save me and lead me into Your eternal kingdom. You are my Creator and Provider and Giver of every good thing, all my hope is in You, and I am sending glory to You now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.)
Who at all times and for every hour, worshiped and glorified in heaven and on earth, Christ God, long-suffering, many-merciful, many-merciful, Whomever love the righteous and have mercy on sinners, Whomever calls to salvation, promises for the sake of future blessings: Himself, Lord, accept and ours in the hour of this prayer and correct our belly to Thy commandments, sanctify our souls, cleanse our bodies, correct our thoughts, cleanse our thoughts: and deliver us from all sorrow, evils and diseases: protect us with Your saints Angles, but keep and instruct them with an army let us achieve in the union of faith and in the mind unapproachable Thy glory: for blessed art thou unto the ages of ages. The patron saint, whose name a person is named

Pray to God for me, holy servant of God (name), as I diligently resort to you, a quick helper and prayer book for my soul.

    Heavenly spirits - angels, archangels

All heavenly Powers, Holy Angels and Archangels, pray to God for us sinners.

    About everyday sins

I confess to You, the Lord my God and Creator, Holy Trinity To the only glorified and worshiped Father and Son and the Holy Spirit, all my sins, even if I have done all the days of my stomach, and for every hour, and at the present time, deed, word, thought, sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch and all my feelings, spiritual together and bodily, in the image of you my God and the Creator of anger, and my neighbor untrue. Pitying about these, I present myself to you, my God, and I have the will to repent, then you, Lord my God, help me, with tears I humbly pray to you; Forgive me, who has passed my sins by Thy mercy, and resolve from all these, as Good and Lover of mankind.)

    Repentance

Weaken, leave, forgive, God, our sins, free and involuntary, even in word and in deed, even in knowledge and not in knowledge, even in days and nights, even in mind and in thought: forgive us all, as good and philanthropist.

About the Living and the Dead

Whoever hates and offends us, Lord, forgive us and philanthropist. Bless those who do good. To all our brethren and relatives, and to those who are secluded, grant all the same to the salvation of petitions and eternal life. In the illnesses of the being, visit and heal, in the dungeons of the being of freedom, wake up the ruler floating on the sea, hastening to travel. Lord, remember our captive brethren, fellow believers of the Orthodox faith, and deliver them from every evil situation. Have mercy, Lord, and forgive those who have commanded us, the unworthy, to pray for them. Have mercy, O Lord, on those who serve us and have mercy on us, and grant them everything for the salvation of petitions and eternal life. Remember, Lord, the fathers and our brothers who have fallen asleep before, and all who died in the pious faith; and I have instilled where the light of your face dwells. Lord, remember our thinness and wickedness, and enlighten our minds with the light of the mind of Your holy Gospel, and guide us on the path of Your commandments; with the prayers of your most pure Mother and all your saints. Amen.

    Final

(Victory to the chosen Voivode, as if we had got rid of the evil ones, we will thankfully describe Ty Thy servants, the Mother of God: but as if having an invincible power, free us from all troubles, let us call Ty: rejoice, Bride of the Bride.)
Glorious Ever-Virgin Mother of Christ God, bring our prayer to Your Son and our God, may our souls be saved by You.
I place all my hope in You, Mother of God, keep me under Your shelter.
Enlighten my eyes, O Christ God, lest I fall asleep into death, lest my enemy say: Be strong against him.

Be the intercessor of my soul, O God, as I walk in the midst of many snares: deliver me from them and save me, Blessed, like a philanthropist.
My hope is the Father, my refuge is the Son, my protection is the Holy Spirit: Holy Trinity, glory to Thee.

(It is worthy to eat as truly blessed Theotokos, blessed and immaculate and the Mother of our God. The most honorable Cherubim and the most glorious seraphim without comparison, without the corruption of God the Word, who gave birth to the Mother of God, we magnify Thee.)
    (Glory... and now...)
    (Lord, have mercy (thrice).)
(Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Holy Mother, our reverend and God-bearing fathers and all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.)

    Before bedtime

Let God arise, and let those who hate Him be scattered, and let those who hate Him flee from His face. Like smoke disappears, let them disappear: like wax melts from the face of fire, so let the demons perish from the face of those who love God and sign the sign of the cross and say in joy: Rejoice, most honorable and life-giving cross Lord, drive away the demons by the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, crucified on you, who descended into hell and corrected the strength of the devil and granted us to you, His honest cross to trample on any adversary. O most honorable and life-giving cross of the Lord! Help me with the Holy Lady Virgin Mother of God and with all the saints forever. Amen.
    Or
Protect me, Lord, with the power of Your honest and life-giving Cross, and save me from all evil.

Into Your hands, Lord Jesus Christ, my God, I commit my spirit. Bless me, have mercy on me and grant me eternal life. Amen.

We have tried to simplify the task as much as possible for a person interested in this topic by dividing the above material, building it in a logical sequence, without violating the sequence of sacred formulas. We hope this helps to some extent.

When studying the article and the prayers, psalms, etc. offered to it, please pay close attention to the notes on each text: how to read, how many times, how to bow, what prayers can be replaced with what.

Of course, not every person has time, unable to immediately gain patience, humility for such lengthy daily rituals. Nevertheless, gradually, step by step, discovering divine revelations for himself, the layman accepts other, albeit strict, rules of the church. With the blessing and with the assistance of the spiritual father, canonical formulas are chosen together with the priest. In the meantime, due to the complexity of mastering Christian science, at first a beginner can read the main sacred texts, slowly adding the rest to them.

    right time

In a special booklet called a prayer book, there are clear instructions for working with certain sacred texts: only getting out of bed in the morning, in the evening shortly before going to bed, that is, after all the worldly worries of a long day. In no case after reading do not watch TV, do not listen to the radio or something else, but immediately go to bed.

However, there are times when, for some reason, a person does not have the opportunity to sleep: a work shift with a flexible schedule, for example. Then it makes no sense to ask for a blessing, because you still won’t lie down to rest. It is better instead of the usual rule to work with the Gospel or something else at your discretion.

    Why you need to read

This is not an easy painstaking daily work that requires maximum concentration, on words that are lifted up to God. Not just a time-consuming activity. And also the discovery in your soul of the inner Light of Truth. Sometimes, pronouncing a complex formula of sacred words, you do not always understand what lies behind this or that phrase.

But suddenly, at some point, with the blessing of the Lord comes the understanding of something special, directed straight into the soul. And then a feeling that cannot be expressed in words - reverence, joy fills every corner of the soul with its light. Therefore, those who wish to acquire it must work diligently and selflessly.

    Religious Christian literature

Having worked with the established rules, feeling the need to broaden your personal spiritual horizons, by all means carry out your plan, having previously consulted with the confessor on the subject of reading religious literature. Thank God, there are quite a lot of them and there is plenty to choose from.

    Most often read:

    • Holy Scripture;
    • Bible: Old and New Testament;
    • Lives of the Saints;
    • trebnik;
    • the law of God;
    • Book of hours;
    • Akathists.

The list can be continued for a long time. Reading religious works is not only useful, but makes you think about many things. Rethink your perspective on a lot of things. Sweep away the garbage, join the divine light, finally learn to love - God, people, yourself - simply and with all your heart.

True, this is not an everyday reading, and sometimes a difficult task, since what is written requires reflection, penetration into the very essence of the material being read, but not only. The difficulty lies in the fact that many books are written in the Old Slavonic language, which for a modern reader who is not used to this, is quite a serious obstacle.

Therefore, you should not immediately take on fundamental things, but rather consult with the priest, ask for his blessing, ask him to explain misunderstood places.

    How to write and pronounce

Accepted abbreviations in prayer books or other books about worship are often used to save space.

Of course, this method is convenient for church people (readers, singers, etc.), who are well versed in the system of notes and footnotes. But what should a novice adherent of faith do? How not to get lost, even if you haven’t figured out the basics yet? The following will come to the rescue short dictionary abbreviations, giving the key to understanding and correctly reading the most common religious formulations.

    1.
“Glory, and now: (or: “Glory: And now:”) - Glory to the Father and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.
"Glory:" - Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
"and now:" - And now and ever, and forever and ever. Amen.
Attention! In the Psalter, each of the kathismas - the twenty parts into which the Psalter is divided for reading - is divided into three parts, after each of which is usually written: "Glory:" (these parts are therefore called "Glories"). In this (and only this) case, the designation "Glory:" replaces the following prayers:
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, glory to Thee, O God. (Three times)
    Lord have mercy. (Three times)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.
    2.
"Alleluia" (Three times) - Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, glory to Thee, God. (Three times)
    3.
“The Trisagion according to Our Father” or “The Trisagion. Holy Trinity ... Our Father ... "- prayers are read sequentially:
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Three times)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.
Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse our sins; Lord, forgive our iniquities; Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Your name's sake.
    Lord have mercy. (Three times)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.
Our Father, Thou art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy Kingdom come; Thy will be done, as in heaven and on earth. Give us our daily bread today; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
